Rookie - need to get certified. Anywhere near the Bay Area?

Does anyone have any suggestions on a place to go to get certified? I've never SCUBA'd before. But my passion is there. I am drawn to the water like the leaves of a tree to the sun. I live in the Bay Area, by Berkeley. I don't have a lot of money, either, so I was hoping it could be a place that's not priced too high.
