I agree.
Any money spent on film equipment at this point in time is foolish.
I have been shooting above the surface with digital for more than three years now.
I now only use film for some of my stereo photography (3d-photography.com) since there is no easy way to make those shots
digitally.
Film will hang on for a long time, because so many people have a large investment in film equipment.
However, there is less types of film available all the time.

The price you quote is for the low end of digital gear however.
5+ Mega Pixel cameras with publication quality results are more, but still cheaper than film gear.
Especially when you consider the ongoing cost of film and processing.

Only the finest grain slide films in 35mm can equal the resolution of high end digital cameras.
At this point, only medium format film (120mm) offers resolution superior to digital.
However, only a very few, shoot in this format, because of the prohibitive cost.

I plan on getting a digital camera after this next lobster season closes.
The features I want should be available, at I price I can live with then.
