I got one break on me two weeks ago. The worst thing is that there is no warning. One may inspect the damn thing throughly and nothing really indicates that it will break AFTER you walked fully geared down that damn long hill, AFTER you walked 50 yards fully geared on the beach and AFTER you got pass the surf zone. and you still have to go back to the shore, take that gear off and sand it, walk BACK that damn hill in a wetsuit under the sun, remember that you left keys to the car in BCD while halfway, go back for a keys, go back UP that hill, get a replacement strap, go back down hill, get sandy gear on and repeat until no buckle breaks.

Doesn't it sound like a major inconvenience? At least a little?
