BTW, "gators" AKA gaiters have been around for alpine mountaineers for years, and they seem to me to be the exact same thing, excepth that the gaiters for climbing in ice and snow have metal buckles and straps in addition to the velcro.
The cheap, enterprising diver in need may prowl REI, Adventure 16 or other such places for cheaper closeouts- beware tho, of any additional straps on the item.
