I disagree with you on the snorkel. I can think
of one situation I was in that a snorkel made life easier.
I was diving an ocean wreck and seas kicked up while I was on bottom.
When I got to the anchor line or rather where it was supposed to be, I had to
shoot a bag to the surface for an ascent/deco line.
On the surface the boat was no where to be seen, it turns out the boat broke free
and it wasn't realized right away, by the time it was realized
the captain was busy looking for divers who did free ascents (and shorter bottom times).
Hanging at my bag with a snorkel was very easy, and I still
was ably to keep gas in my tanks. I didn't swallow any water
unlike the unfortunate who didn't have the luxury.
When diving dry my snorkel is in my dry suit pocket out of the way, there if I need it.
If I am diving wet, I wear it, it doesn't bother me, Pockets on my
harness really aren't great for a snorkel.
