The steel tank and westuit issue has been heavily debated on this list in the past so if your question is are there diver's that use steel tanks and westuits the answer is yes. If your question is are there DIR divers that dive steel tanks and westuit the answer is NO... Our view is that, particularly in the open ocean, that diving steel tanks and westuit is an uneceesary risk so we avoid the practice...
The number of DIR diver's in Ca. is a good question and the only answe I can give is that 2 years ago there weren't any and as of right now Walker is booked months in advance and Andrew G is racking up frequent flyer miles in Monterey in epidemic proportions so the numbers are growing...
