Aaron Burr shot and killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel over words said in a Presidential campaign during the early history of America. Congress outlawed dueling as a result, and Burr fled America for Europe where he lived out the rest of his life.
Trial by jury is the rule of law in American today, but trial by ordeal in past ages was always based on the foundation that someone who was unjustly offended would have more of an adrenaline rush from the fury of injustice and therefore prevail in a duel by combat than his opponent.
Taz, are you getting all this? They dont teach history like this at UCLA anymore. They just teach trial procedure now.
