We make our OW students walk their gear up and down from the parking lot. They also have to surface swim to and from the buoy in full gear. It's 738.6' from the base of the steps to the white buoy (I did my DM class map there). We want to make sure that they're fit enough to be able to handle themselves in North Coast conditions. Aren't those algae covered, rocks fun? The algae cover is actually pretty light this year. Last year I took three falls in full gear. This year I'm unscathed - so far.
