Well, actually I've just broken out my old copy of Richard Henry Dana's "Two Years Before the Mast" and he's writing about the schooners and Clipper ships at anchor while awaiting the arrival of Buffalo hides from the Plains. While not really giving exact GPS coordinates, I figure the anchorage was possibly offshore just in front of the Dana monument along that street that winds around the cliffs in Dana Point. Question: Has anyone on this list known people who've dived that spot and...If so do you think it would be worth mounting an expedition in search of curios that might have been thrown off the ships (excluding ballast) For those unfamiliar, Buffalo hides were thrown off those cliffs in the mid to late 1800's for shipment back East.
Thank you for any info.
