The best way to say it is "the OOA diver leads the donor" regardless of the size of the team. That way, the OOA controls the pace of the swim and can always communicate with the donor by turning around. The donor also can observe the OOA diver at all times. With a team greater than two, another diver can take the lead and navigate.
