Mike,
You got a real bug up your butt about this "on your
knees" thing. I teach through two agencies and both
require the execution of ascents using the buddies'
alternate air source. The initial "on the knees" thing
is to prepare the student to do the ascent, making sure
they know how to secure the regulator and make proper contact
with their buddy. You have to think about what the instructor
is going to have to do if this exercise goes to hell. And it does.
So the "on the knees" intro is for the benefit of both the students
and the instructor.
