The issue of tank volumes in non-issue with the 'management' of this scenario. Even if you have a bigger tank than your buddy or a 'fresh one' how would this preclude you from proper monitoring of your gas supply or your buddy's. You cannot state for certain that the larger cylinder person (buddy) will not be the one in trouble thus rendering this logic of a larger volume cylinder as a false sense of security.
