The sad fact is that we may never know.. The Coast Gaurd and the Life Gaurds have called off any search efforts.. I just hung up with L.A. County Sherriff's dept. and we may go take a look for the body in the next day or so...
Absent a body, and equipment inspection we may never know for sure...
The fact is however, based upon the fact that they ascended from ~ 120' to 50' and then re-descended tells me that with any sort of practice and quality training, this fatality could very well have been avoided.. The problem was basically solved, and they were 50' from the surface.. This should never have resulted in a falality..
