I dove with a tech bc for a long time (custome made seapro)
That fit real well (fully custom) and was confortable, but for
control you can't beat a backplate/harness properly adjusted
the tanks are part of you and aren't even noticed. Some people
(especially the small of stature) have problems with the standard
size backplate but several manufacturers now offer other sizes.
If you are properly weighted, the only reason to ever ditch a system is to be hopelessly
entangled. My harness is NOT rigged DIR style but rather a single
buckle (I have yet to see one fail in 13 years of diving (if they were that dangerous I don't think rock climbers would use them)
and if it ever did it wouldn't effect my ability to control the tanks since its still tight around the waist,
1 shoulder and chest strap) It doesn't move until the chest strap is released even then its still controlable..
I prefer the single buckle since the exhaust valve (dry suit) on my shoulder slows me down gettting into
and out of the harness when I have to go through a restriction.
