Your idea of contacting PADI is a very constructive suggestion. I would not consider that bashing at all.

I usually stay out of the "my-agency-is-better-than-your-agency" fray. One reason for that being that there is little real choice up here where the redwoods are tall, the water is cold, and the divers are f-ing crazy. So I do not have as much experience with the high-pressure-marketing scuba business that seems to exist in SoCal.

I made the "ignore the bashing" comment because this is a case of a real person having an immediate problem, not some theoretical debate. I wanted to see useful responses instead of a rapidly deteriorating bashing session. I'm glad to see that almost all of the responses have been helpful and to the point.

As far as I'm concerned, once a rescue has been made anyone is welcome to play armchair quarterback.
