Our local guy will not cut your hand off if you dive differently. All they do is abuse you verbally if you piss them off for some reason. Not the best analogy in my opinion.
I don't understand why you get so heated up about this issue. Just dive your way and be happy to enjoy piece of configuration you stolen from DIR. Whatever you steal makes you safer diver and that, I think, is really Mike's agenda (apart from ego stroking :P).
