I consider 100 fsw a deep dive. The surface is a long way away if you have a need to get there.

As so the max depth I would do on air, I am not sure. Surely not in excess of 150, but the actual number varies in my mind based on other factors. For example, I have felt uncomfortable in 100ish depth in cold dark water with clear signs of being impared. I have been at 120ish depths on other occasions where I felt comfortable and sufficiently clear headed.

I base the depth on where I want to dive. I do not like to dive deep and I do not go deep unless there is a really good reason. I like long dives and shallow dives with plenty of light. If I got the itch to go somewhere that required much time at depths > 100, I would probably look into fancy blends, but for my diving, air (and occasionally nitrox) are fine and I usually dive in 75 or less.
