Since I've seen a LOT of sportie configurations that look downright scary, I'll take that as a compliment.
Cleaning up the "typical" (if there can even be called that) sport configuration by using cave or even commercial configurations makes for a much safer configuration in anybody's book.
About the necklace: This the best way I know of to secure the backup second & is an acceptable risk, moreso if rigged properly. Avoiding a hard attachment to the mouthpiece seems like a very good idea to me.
Now, if there was a way to glue the tank right to the diver's back we could eliminate all those nasty straps...
