Pole spears are handy things to have, and their use is not just limited to beginners. The take aparts are for traveling (every joint is a potential failure point). Stick with the glass, they're stronger. Be sure to keep it out of the sun as much as possible for a long service life.
The paralyzer tips are very good on critters up to about a foot & a half. If you get a pole spear with a threaded tip, you can stick a detachable point on it for the bigger stuff.
The nice thing about pole spears are they get you in the habit of setting up for your shot, something that's very important.
