I've had good luck with the same technique that Seahunt describes. Lots of kelp on top of ice. I've had lobsters still alive more than 24 hours later with that technique.
One important thing is to keep the lobsters out of fresh water while they are still alive. Keep the ice in a sealed bag or put some kelp on top of the ice so the bugs stay out of the fresh water as the ice melts. I've found that the fresh water makes the lobster meat mushy.
