Last Friday and Saturday, October 26-27, 2001, I went on a great trip to Tanner Bank, Cortes Bank, and San Clemente Island with Sea Divers (http://SeaDivers.org/) on the Great Escape (http://DiveBoat.com/).
The trip out was smooth.
There was a large swell, but with a very long 17-second period.
It was still dark when we arrived at Tanner Bank.
The morning light was just breaking through when we started the dive at Tanner, so I took my UK1200.
Down below I saw no bugs, but there were many fish.
It was a chilly 51 °F
Coming up the water was full of jellys and salps drifting by.
We then moved to Cortes.
Because of the swell there was strong surge at anything less than about 50 ft.
At Cortes the temperature was about 56 °F.
Also the bugs seemed to be deeper.
One dive we pulled up to the wreck, and I get 2 just legal bugs inside.
It may have been due to the Douglas Dive Club on the Westerly being there first.
I did well, but my biggest bug was about 4 ½ lbs.
The biggest bug of the trip, which is pictured here, was 8.1 lbs.
