Your analysis of the risk associated with an aircraft flight makes sense when the aircraft has ambient cabin pressure of 8K ft or less.

Is there any research as to the risk associated with a loss of cabin pressure for aircraft flying 27K to 40K ft? This is a sudden reduction in ambient pressure akin to a rapid ascent. I had always felt that this was the risk of flying too soon after diving, but would be interested in research to the contrary.
