Hard to argue against ban on nitrox (actually down right illogical in my mind as you already know from earlier posts) Clueless DM's are a dime a dozen and level headed passengers running the show pretty common and not just in So Ca. So I just like being a 'Defensive Diver' watch out for others b/c they will rip the reg out of your mouth or grab you to slow ascent...heck if I needed air you're gonna give it up and my buddies know this as ESA's are not part of my option bag.
