It's your boat and you can run it the way you
want. And it sounds like you run it well.
Up here in NorCal, I've never had a problem diving
solo. In fact, it was Capt. Phil who agreed that
I was ready. NorCal's Capt. Tim (Doreck) had a
good responce when I asked him what the Monterey
Express's position on solo divers was: "On the
surface roughly above them.". ;-)
