i'll use some piquant, odoriferous, olfactorily offensive, ripe bait...cat food it is. i've noticed discarded fish skeletons that had the entrails eaten away just sitting there with nothing nibbling on the rest and i've seen lobster traps with the bait just sit there going begging while there've been numerous bugs in the area as well. i wonder now, if the lobster just did'nt care for the "unripe" bait? I had always previously thought that someone got there first and had raided the traps, but now that it think about it, bait ain't really gonna stink up the place if it's too fresh and the ambient temperature is only in the mid 50s.
