This last weekend I went to Santa Cruz Island on the Peace with the Bent Dive Club.
We left Ventura at 4AM and had an amazingly smooth ride out.
When I awoke we were at Yellow Banks
The water was 58°F with about 40 to 60 foot visibility.
There was no current and only a slight breeze.
Although it began to rain during the first dive, the conditions remained nice.
There were many lobsters, but mostly shorts.
The ones that were legal were just so.
Sometime at some stage in the last dive the rain stopped, and the wind picked up.
Once this dive was finished we headed for a more protected, Scorpion Anchorage.
There were many scallops there, but only a few bugs.
Sill, it was a nice day of diving.
I elected to sit out the night dive, but a few went, and some returned with just legal bugs.
The next day the wind was still blowing a bit, but we spent the whole day (4 dives) Yellow Banks.
On the last two dives a came across large rock piles in 40 to 50 feet packed with bugs, and managed to pull a few legals out of each.
At the end of the trip I ended up with 14 bugs, but only three were large enough not to need measuring.
My girlfriend Kathryn caught her first two.
Several people on the boat limited.
It was a great trip.
Pictures from the trip are on the link below.
