It is apparent that Gen. Colin Powell broke the race barrier in the US Army. I am not sure that has happened in the Navy yet completely, at the highest levels, Admiral, Captain, etc.

The most interesting thing about this issue is that if you look at the current segregation rules for women in the Navy, it is similar to the racial issues that the Navy went through decades ago. And it sort of shows you how far the women in the Navy still have to go, and how long it will probably take, if they are really interested in doing it all the way.

I thought the movie was heavily about race. Divers are not the only really brave sailors in the Navy. Pilots who have to land their planes on carriers, MedEvac helo pilots & crews, Navy corpsmen, submariners, they are all incredibly brave. Courage and unselfishness was a theme in that movie, and so was technical diving, but so was race.

I did not see the Brashiers interview. Do you have a cite on it?
