While I have never had one abandon the gear for me to carry back, I understand what you are saying. In the next week or so I am taking a diver out who we have not seen in the water. He is new, but has several dives under his belt. There are three of us that are diving alot together lately, and I will buddy up with the new one and my dive will be watching him and showing him around. We want to make sure he is up to speed and safe. It will be a night dive and I will not hunt, but rather watch him hunt.

I am not complaining. I like to buddy up with newer divers. I find it fun, but it has an impact on the dive plan. Not necessarily better or worse, just different.
