PS - also, your contention that the photo didn't show the anterior end of the gauge is obviously not correct. It's just dark. The image you posted is a bad copy... looks like mabye a paper photocopy? (it's obviously been folded and the quality is bad) A better copy of the photo could be lightened up and then your whole technicality argument goes out the window.
