After reading ChrisM's post (and having endured the same ride back yesterday - and I echo his comments about Tim's superb handling of everything), I thought I'd take a quick peek at the website/records for the Catalina buoy (33°44'42" N 119°05'02" W) which I think is actually between Catalina and SBI.
But during the time we were making the channel transit yesterday (1-3PM), here's what the buoy registered:
WAVE HEIGHTS: 8.9 - 10.2 feet
WIND SPEED: 27 - 31 MPH
WIND GUSTS: 35-37 MPH
To say that it was an exiciting ride home is an understatement.
