Steve, "subclinical" DCS refers to relatively mild DCS symptoms that may often be overlooked by a diver, such as headache or fatigue after diving. On the mild end of the scale, it's really hard to say definitively whether symptoms are from DCS or not. The body often heals itself, so you may not know whether a headache was due to decompression stress or from other causes. If symptoms are still relatively mild but a little more pronounced, such as an unexplained pain in a joint that emerges after a dive, dive doctors usually recommend recompression treatment and see how you respond in order to conclude whether it was really DCS or not.
