Good point Neil, but I think that some of these GUE classes are advanced cave certs. Cavers have much greater dangers than OW divers and I'm glad that they wash out the ones who wouldn't be able to cut the mustard. Probably saved there lives. Some of these cavers will watch OW certs from Naui Padi and get ill at how easy the skill requirement is. Naui and Padi OW courses help many people enter the sport today that years ago would have been failed by the macho mindset. As you said it ain't brain surgery. Cavers also seem obsessed or fanatical about their gear to the point where some seems to have lost enjoyment of the sport. But that's a rant for another day.
