The strangest part was that the instructor had a DIN valve on his tank, so his first stage stuck out even higher. I had never seen anyone do this on purpose before. I have seen OW students do it, though. I didn't want to ask him about this in front of his students, but I couldn't figure out what possible advantage this could have. Maybe they could remove the reg and open the valve. That way, the air escaping from the tank could act as a DPV.
