The last two are the operant words here. I have a hard-to-fit face (fairly narrow, deepset eyes), and I went through many masks before I found one that's a good fit. Sometimes masks seem to fit in the store but end up being somewhat leaky in the water. Ideally it would be best to try one out in the water before buying (in my case, I tried various buddies' masks until I found one that worked for me, a Seaquest Visage).

Although it's not as critical in scuba as in freediving, a low-volume mask is a good idea. For freediving I'm currently using an Omer Asia. Omer's Abyss is even lower-volum and fits me well, but the field of vision isn't quite as wide. All of these have wide skirts so they compensate well for different face types.

Good luck!
