It's DUKW, not DUWK. It's acronym of some sort,
and I think the W is some encoding of the year it
was designed.
There was one at Ft. Ord
unitl the 7th Light pulled out. They were a
WW II vintage amphibious truck. They were
literally a 6x6 army truck water proofed with a
prop added. And huge.
There's a picture in Bascom's Waves and Beaches
showing him surfing one at Carmel River State
Beach on a BIG day. IMPRESSIVE.
An AltaVista search on DUKW will turn up lots of
hits.
It would be a fun dive boat: load at home, drive
down the ramp and to the dive site. No parking
fees.
