This thing isn't totally useless - I am interested
in mapping out the canyon that cuts down the middle of Monastery beach and taking contour lines is going to be tricky.
But you'd never use it to find the boat. It would take too long, and any CA diver worth their salt shouldn't need a GPS readout to get in the viscinity (and with boats swinging on their anchor anyhow, you want to navigate to the anchor, not the boat before you get in).
I do a lot of dead reckoning dives when boat diving into a big square kelp zone. Nothing is more pleasing than coming up to find the stern is 10 ft to your left. And that after a 50 minute circuit of the grounds. And if you blow it? Nice little swim to punish ya.
I think the transmitter/receiver kits make far more sense for boating finding tasks.
