There is an experience in the pool where the students have their air turned off and feel the air breathe down. Granted this is "faster" than the hard breathing of an emptying tank, but they all feel what it is like to have the air go away in a matter of breaths.

When they are ooa, they signal the instructor and they get their valve turned back on. But they know what it feels like.
