The maximum effective depth for a diver is pretty much limited to the "thickness" of the breathing medium.
Heliox is stretching things at 1200', though substituting hydrogen for the He makes 2000' dives possible.
They "say" that the 02 content in the 2000' mix is insufficient to support an explosion, though I wouldn't really want to test it.
I probably shouldn't even be writing this, next thing ya know some home brewer will be making an oxygen enriched hydrogen mix. Just think how fast THAT would offgass!!
