New studies show that beverages containing this diaretic substance caffeine do not contribute as much to dehydration as once thought. In fact the study I am remembering found that drinking a 12oz soda actually added slightly to the hydration coefficient but at a marginal rate (I believe 1/5 or 20% of what a 12 oz glass of water would do) So water is the best but will you really lose more than you ingest due simply to caffeine? Not hardly as new research indicates. However you should still get your 8- 8oz glasses a day of H2O
