Getting the weight moved up usualy gets the "floaty feet" thing going, especially with a drysuit.
That's where the ankle weight thing pops up; ankle weights can often be eliminated with proper trimming.
Now might be a good time to get a drysuit; you'd probably be hanging perfectly horizontal then.
I prefer my weight riding a tad lower myself, and I'll shift weight depending on what I'm doing. Suspenders on the weight belt are good for that.
Getting new gear is just like getting a new pair of shoes, it takes a little while to break 'em in.
Have you checked out FredT's backplates yet? He makes 2 different weight in SS as well as an Al version.
