The main issue is that the autofocus needs a little while to lock on. You can preset (at least on my camera) the autofocus to always be on - burns up battery life but makes the time lag faster between shutter release and picture. Also, you use the LCD to frame your shot, so it is easier to track things... An instant shutter would be better, but the slight delay wasn't too much of a problem with the 4040 - I still managed to get some decent shots of fast moving things, like the sea lion.
