The area shallower than 100 FSW tends to have lots of loose sand. The hard substrate that allows more or less vertical walls and fosters the interesting marine life is generally 100+. Scripps Canyon is a beautiful dive, but it is definitely deep and can be hard to get to if you don't belong to the UCSD dive club.
