Last Saturday (2/2/2) Kathryn and I went to San Clemente Island on the Great Escape with Sea Divers.
The Navy had closed down the west end of the island.
However since it was as calm as a mountain lake, Captain Tim took us about half way down the backside to try three new dive spots.
The water had that incredible blue color that on San Clemente seems to get.
The visibility varied from 70 to about 150 feet.
The water temperature at depth was 54 °F.
The first site was a series of walls, small caves, kelp, and lots of coral and short bugs, lush vegetation and invertebrate life, and small schools of bait fish.
The next site also had some nice rock formations, but the prettier ones I found were a bit of a swim.
I also saw several pink abalones on this dive, including two groups.
Our last dive was near the dunes.
Here there were many large and small rock formations, all with lush growth.
I saw many green abalones, and a few pinks.
I also managed to find a legal bug here.
I also love the backside of Clemente, there is not a bad dive spot there, they very from great to fantastic, because of the lush beauty and many fish.
Peter Landecker also found some whale bones on one dive and posed with them, Kathryn, and Elaine.
