Many of the people I meet who want to learn to dive seem more interested in minimizing their financial outlay and time obligation than learning to dive well.
Often after they start the course, and realize the dangers involved their opinion changes and decide they need more than the minimum requirements.
Perhaps this is why dive education has gone toward very minimum requirements for the first course, and then selling the "advanced course" as part of the initial lessons.
