I tried shaving mine off, but after wearing it for 20+ years, couldn't stand to b w/o my "fuzzy friend" looking back at me in the mirror. grew it back, but left a small margin under my nose of smooth skin, and I have a mask with a purge valve in case of any minor seepage of water.
