HID is the way to go for video lighting. Without all the techinical mumbo jumbo I don't understand anyway, my footage from the Coral Sea taken at night looks like the best possible day footage, as far as color goes (if only there were some more interesting critters out.) As an alternative to some of the more expensive HID systems available out there, I am currently using two UK light cannons and have had great results. The lights themselves are under $200 each. If you have a Gates housing, they Gates is now offering a NiteRider system that has a battery pack that attaches to your camera, as opposed to the diver (a concept I was never to keen on...)
