Lisa, you are right. The ego's are huge. And there are lots of sexist pigs. But I don't think that's the reason new and old divers drop out.
I think that you can point the finger at poor training, lack of buddies, and expendence as the main reasons for the high drop-out rate. Diving is not an easy sport, you have to really want to dive, some people just don't have that passion.
