There are certain groups I do not go out with, because they like to be the scuba police.
If you have only had bad experiences on dive boats you have chosen to dive with the wrong group or on the wrong boat.
My favorite group to dive with, Sea Divers (SeaDivers.org), is my favorite because they are a very low key group of advanced divers, and goes to great spots.
Many of the club officers and members are women.
Perhaps you should find a better group to go out with.

If you are a certified diver, no one should tell you how to dive.
As an adult, that should be your choice.
When I DM, I do not tell divers what to do, however I do my best to answer their questions or help them when they ask.
When I dive, I sometimes dive alone, and sometimes without a BC.
I don't want some yahoo DM with orders of magnitude less experience telling me I can't dive that way.

People who demonstrate sexism in diving are only showing their own ignorance.
My personal diving mentor, Paulette Johnson, when I was a new diver is a woman.
She has been diving longer, more, and in many places than most other divers I have ever met.
