I was lucky enough to find a large one out of it's hole in Catalina. Of course I wanted to make sure the rest of the people I was diving with could see it, so I kept myself between the bug and it’s hole by putting my hand in front of it. I’d put my hand out and the bug would turn the other way (they can move quickly both with their legs and that big lobster tail). Then it decided that playtime was over and instead of moving away from my hand it came straight at my hand and zapped me. It opened a half inch slice deep into my palm as clean as a razor.
What surprised me the most wasn’t that it struck me, but that it seemed to have such a badass attitude by moving into me.
