The warmest water that i have consistantly found has always been the water out front of SCI. That summer i actuallw saw a spearfish one mile north of the east end. That area is the calmest stretch of water anywhere for miles, it just sits there and bakes.
43 degrees is serious stuff! I would have second thoughts about that myself....

BTW, the good skiff has a $14 digital radio shack temp gage built in. It uses a tiny battery and stays on all the time. It has been in there since 91' and i've only replaces the battery twice! It is very accurate at both absolute and repeatability.
